2005 Urban Water Management Plan Author(s): Publisher: Placer County Water Agency Abstract/Description: This Urban Water Management Plan (Plan) addresses the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA or Agency), which provides water to approximately 220,000 people in Placer County (County). The Agency provides retail water service to about 36,000 agricultural, municipal, and industrial connections, with both raw and treated water, in the cities of Auburn, Colfax, Loomis, and Rocklin, and to most of the small communities in unincorporated western Placer County along the I-80 corridor below Alta. The Agency also provides treated water to several mutual water companies within its Zone 1 service area that operate their own distribution systems. ...

Assessing Cumulative Watershed Effects in the Central Sierra Nevada: Hillslope Measurements and Catchment-scale Modeling Author(s): Lee MacDonald, Drew Coe, Sandra Litschert Abstract/Description: Cumulative effects result from the combined impact of multiple activities over space and time. Land and aquatic resource managers are particularly concerned with cumulative watershed effects (CWEs). CWEs can encompass a broad range of concerns, but the primary issues are the changes in runoff, water quality, channel morphology, and aquatic ecosystems at the watershed scale (Reid, 1993). Hence CWEs are a class of cumulative effects defined by multiple sources within a watershed and a common delivery mechanism (i.e., the drainage network) (...

WBD Watersheds Hydrologic Unit Hierarchy – and CalWater Crosswalk, 2005/06/27 Author(s): Robyn Myers Publisher: US Dept of Agriculture - Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Abstract/Description: The WBD is updating the 1970’s USGS Hydrologic Unit Maps, of which the 4th Level (8 digit) was the smallest hydrologic units. The new national WBD map will provide national watershed coverage down to the 6th level (12 digit) sub-watershed. California acknowledges the need for local watersheds to delineate in more detail than planned for by the National Guidelines. We propose that “Drainage” and “Site” levels be added to California's guidelines to allow for this local detail. The US Forest Service uses these smallest watershed units in its work, and we encourage other agencies and local watershed groups to develop these within the WBD hierarchy. The CalWater 2.2.1 hierarchy is a different system, designed by the state of California, using a different naming and numbering schema. This cross-walk shows the relationship between the two systems. All future versions of the California State watershed map (aka: CalWater 3.x) will use the linework developed in the WBD delineation process. The attribute tables for the digital map will include both the Federal and State naming and number systems for each hydrologic unit. ...
